ClothPaper Scissors: My Article: Illustrative Clay Painting!

Does it get anybetter then this, being inside Cloth Paper Scissors, Nov./Dec. 2009 Issue? I am beyond excited, there is nothing more magical then seeing your works printed for all to see and be inspired by.
This publication has been one of my fave magazines for years, and is such an honor to be apart of this edition with so many other wonderful and talented artisans inside. I mean look at that cover, this artist is incredible, sooo cute and gets you in the Holiday spirit.
My article is entitled: Illustrative Clay Painting in which I have also included the recipes for 2 handmade clays that you can use in your paintings, for jewelry, sculpting, pressing into molds, etc.Finding ways to illustrate various storybook characters is a passion of mine, not too serious, not overdone, just something whimsical, fun and easy to do, with fast results. As an artist, I love projects which look amazing and are easy to do. This project is one of them, by incorporating a variety of supplies such as clay, felt, flocking, papers, glitters, jewels, you get a 3-d piece of art which not only tells a story, but can hang on your wall or sit on your shelf sharing that story.Lulu's Carnival! Finished!Original Piece
If you can't illustrate, these project can be created using copy right free clip art from companies like Dover Publications or from vintage silhouettes, or image transfers, which can easily be painted over or built upon w/the clay or felt.

By Day five of Zne, I was exhausted, but still finding the energy through lots of Starbucks Coffee, I was missing my Dounkin Donuts Coffee at this point, LOL!
Today was the last day of the Convenzione in Pleasanton, which I was sad about, since the next day we would all be leaving our friends and heading home. But I was also excited since this day would be when I signed my books with some fabulous people.Pleasanton Palm Trees! LOL!The Pacific Landscape! On a Foggy Sunday all the vendors and artists returned to the fairgrounds for another day of fun. A perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.

Instead My mom and I hailed 3 trains into the San Fran Airport, and were told due to bad weather around Newark Airport we would be delayed, let's just say I finally walked in my door and to my bed at 3:30am, Eastern Time, LOL! and slept for a day still catching up on sleep, LOL!

ZNE Convenzione Day Three! Post 4
By day three I was starting to get a bit tired, but everyone's laughter and joy kept me going and re-newed my energy. Today was going to be a big day, breakfast in the morning, workshop all day, event dinner right after, so no time to change into new clothes for dinner, so If I looked scary, lol, that was it! LOL!

AnnDenise, Mica, Ruth and Me scurried down to the lobby to get our shuttle driver and head to Carrow's to meet Lana for breakfast. I'd say for all of us East Coasters, Breakfast before class!Carrow's is equivilant to The International Pancake House or Perkin's. At Breakfast Lana presented me with the most beautiful gifts, one was an artcard she made with Dresden Trims and the next was a necklace she bought me at Tangerine, a piece made by the amazing Gina Gabriell, Here is a photo of the box it came in, I was wearing at this point, LOL!Breakfast before class w/Lana!After breakfast the real fun began, the shuttle forgot all of us at Carrows, Lana had left and went to the workshops, while we had to wait for the shuttle to come get us, since they had our supplies too. Oh I'd say an hour later it showed up, taking us to the fairgrounds to our event, let's say we were late, LOL! It made for some story telling and more laughter.

Today would bring alot of surprise for me, after getting the students supplied and ready to start the: Fairytale Follies Boat Box Class, I needed to un-wind for a second and re-group after a hectic morning. So I walked over to Iva's Class to say hi, here are some pictures of Iva Wilcox, Ann-Denise Anderson, Debrina Pratt and Yours Truly, LOL:iva lisa anndenise debrinaMe, Ann Denise and Debrina!Me, Ann Denise and Debrina! 2lisa and debrina2

LOL! Just sitting back to un-wind over dinner, listening to great speakers and sharing stories among each other was what made the day that much more.

I have 3 more posts to go staring with day 4, tomm. Once the Zne posts are complete I will be sharing new art, stories and adventures, while visiting all your blogs.

Zne Convenzione Day 2: Marionette Theatre Workshop, Post 3!
My students: The Marionette Class!Day 2, the first day of workshops at the fairgrounds, here is my workshop students/artists with their Marionette Theatre's. Pictured left to right are: Lynn, Jill, Iva, Jen, Yvonne, Me and Joan. Jen's Box was outside drying, lol, it was too cute. All these girls are incredibly talented and super nice, I miss each of them, we all shared an arftful experience filled with laughter and joy, Honestly, I think my workshop tables for two days were disrupting the rest, LOL, I mean all we did was create and laugh, I laughed so hard I felt like I did 1,000 sit ups. They do say laughing is good for the stomach muscles, I better laugh up some more. LOL!Marionette Class: Lisa, Jen, JillHere is a photo of Me, Jill and Jen.
In this workshop, I showed everyone how to make their own dolls, from my molds, their own molds and free form sculpting. When ever I don't have to do kits, I don't, my philosophy is: "We all have different creative flows jumping around in our head, some of us love PINK and Pastels, Vintage Chic, Distressed and Grungy, Bright and Bold, we all have a vision and want to bring that vision to life. In my classes students are encouraged to run with that vision using the techniques and samples in my class to build on their own imagination and un-lock what is inside. My students: The Marionette Class! 2My students: The Marionette Class! 3Anyone who has taken my classes/workshops knows I bring everything to class, from glue to glitter, picures to paper, embellishments and more, in a variety of styles. Each of the students received a Shoe Box and began building their theatres. Once the class learned the basic box building, I split us up into groups: A. the one set began building their boxes B. the next set began building their dolls, then we switched and by lunch we were all on the same page.Jenn's Pixies: The Marionette Class! Here are Jen's Dolls on their way outside into the Sunny and Warm air ready for their drying time.
