Eight Days of Christmas, Post Three!

On the 8th day of Christmas........


We are only 8 days away from Christmas, the true spirit of the season is upon us. Have you begun shopping for presents? What about buying ingredients for the gingerbread and sugar cookies, Sugared Plum Pudding, Candy Cane Bars, Fruit Cake or Anise treats?

Did you locate the family holiday heirlooms, decorated the house and tree, or found the St. Lucia Crown and Candles? Where are the holiday cards? Did you mail them yet?
So much to do and get ready for the closer we get to Christmas Eve and Day. This year I vowed to get my Christmas cards out on time, to have my presents wrapped, the sugary sweets done and the decorations up. I opted to decorate only 3 Christmas trees this year instead of 5 or 6 like I normally due, to keep the theme more homemade and vintage instead of modern. I wanted to create a holiday this year reminiscent of holidays past from the 1940s or 50's in a simple and apple pie time.I choose red as the primary color in the decor such as red berries, red bulbs, red ornaments and red flowers. For accents I wanted white/creams, some green, pink, and silver.The sitting room has been transformed into what I call: Shiny Brite Land filled w/a shiny brite pink tinsel tree and a shiny brite silver tinsel tree which are each loaded with vintage shiny brite bulbs, vintage ornaments and homemade wares. Each tree sits upon a table, homemade tree cloth and adorned with a vintage vignette of sweet finds which I have collected over the years.The main tree stands magically in the family room, a fresh cut green tree from the farm, decorated with a mix of vintage and new ornaments, loads of handmade ornaments, colorful lights, bows, berries and birds.Behind the french doors, you enter the living room, the mantel is decorated w/red berries, Christmas Cards, topiaries and nutcracker, the shelves w/vintage holiday and carnival vignettes, followed by more berries. The banister is wrapped w/a green garland, sugared fruits, berries and red velvety pointsettas. Everything ties into the next, a cozy enchanted, homemade, apple pie mood, warm and inviting, waiting for friends to come over and share some holiday cookies and conversation.

The Queen of Fairyland

Not only is The Carnival Soiree approaching in 10 days, But in April, another fabulous event is coming: Easter, a day of celebration, Religious Love, Praise and The Arrival of the Easter Bunny, who never comes to your house without an Easter Basket or Chocolate Bunny.

Last week I was at Walmart picking up some items, when I came upon the Easter section, it was like a journey into time. This year everything is 50's style, Russell Stover put out an Easter Pastel Line, the chocolate bunnies, and matching goodies can be in creamy pastel colors of Baby Blue, Pink, Hot Pink, Orange, Lilac, Pale Green, and Yellow. Their are peeps in the same colors, edible grass from Germany, candied eggs, cutesy stuffed animals, and sweet baskets, its just Easter Wonderland, and best part, its reasonable and at Walmart.

When I was young their used to be a few stores open by me, Newbury's and Woolworth's which my mom used to frequent and buy my holiday goodies at, when I saw this aisle I remember those times. Not sure if the Walmart by you will have these goodies, but the ones by me do.

As a tribute to our vintage holiday past, I created this piece in what I call The Cupcake Chic Color Scheme and Style, a vintage vignette made in a large Pink Egg with removable cover, normally used to hold candies or surprises in, I call this piece: The Queen of Fairyland, read her story:

Meet Candie Meadows, The Queen of Fairyland! Here is Queen Candie, welcoming Spring and Easter in her blooming egg garden, just outside her palace in Cottonwood.

Today she will hold the annual Easter Bunny Ceremony where she bestows Mr. Bunny with extra magic, which last all season, this will enable him to surprise children everywhere (Adults too), with Easter Candies and Baskets.


Plus today will mark the official day of candy making, Cottonwood Confectionaires and Percy Pookerman's Candy factories will be extra busy, making sure there is enough confections to go around.
