Carnival Mini Frame Assemblages

Here is a fun project I have been doing for ages, using frames of all sizes as the base for an assemblage. The frames in this post are smaller in size and available at Michaels Craft Store, if you don't find a color you like, paint it with a nice enamel or multi purpose paint, I like the consistency of Marth Stewart Paints or latex paints found in the discarded section of your local hardware or paint store.

The frames are then layered with scrapbook papers, trims and trinkets. The main embellishments are from my line: Cupieology, Lisa Kettell Designs.

The embellishments I used from the Cupieology line are;

•  XL Cupie Head, Candy Pink, 

• Mini Carnival Cupies.

I further decorated my mini frame assemblages with additional trinkets and handmade banners created from scraps of paper and floral wire.

Sunburst Carnival Journal Project

"Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings These are a few of my favorite things"- Sound of Music We all know just how much I love the Carnival and Cupie Dolls, that's why I'm excited to share with you this fast and easy project I created that everyone can do in a few short minutes with a few simple supplies, its called a Sunburst Carnival Journal. Transform any journal or notebook into a carnival journal w/a few simple supplies and steps. Materials: -XL Cupie head from Lisa Kettell Designs -Medium Sized Wood Craft Sun or Moon -A Journal -Craft Glue of Choice -Optional: Glitter, Ribbon, Bakery Twine, Lettering, Broken Jewelry Directions: 1. Place the medium sized wood craft sun onto the center of the journal, glue in place. 2. Attach the XL cupie head on top of the wood sun, glue in place. 3. Add extra embellishments such as glitter, ribbon, lettering, etc. Tip/Tricks: -Use hot glue for faster gluing -Coat XL cupie head with glitter or embellish with broken jewelry -Line the bottom edge of journal with colored measuring tape (found in the sewing section of craft stores) -Add found objects to journal -Cover a composition notebook with scrapbook paper or wrapping paper, then add wood accents and cupies Hope this project inspired you to create a journal of your own, cupie heads and other embellishments are available. xoxo Lisa

Old Fashioned Valentine “Cupie Style”

Materials

Mini cupie doll Lisa Kettell Designs

Queen Cupie Pink Paper Lisa Kettell Designs

Cupie Paper Blue & Pink Lisa Kettell Designs

Martha Stewart Paper Magnolia Flower

Vellum wording

Iridescent white scalloped ribbon ~ 20” long

Pink and red satin ribbon 3/16” ~ 18” long

White satin ribbon 3/8” ~ 18” long

Pink pearl brad ¼”

Cardboard

Modge Podge Decoupage medium satin finish

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Scissors

Zig 2 way glue

Instructions

· Trace 6” heart template onto the card board and Queen cupie paper using Queen cupie as focal point in 1^st heart and pink background from same paper for the 2^nd heart

· Use decoupage medium to adhere the hearts to both sides of the cardboard heart, place glued hearts under a heavy book for a few minutes to allow to set

· Trim edges of paper hearts to neaten up

CUPIE Word Side of Heart

· Cut out the word “CUPIE” from second sheet of scrapbook paper

· Arrange letters on plain side of heart and glue down using decoupage medium, coat the top of the lettering and heart as well

· Tie a knot in 3.8” white satin ribbon and trim ends to about 1 ¼” long each side, hot glue in place

CUPIE DOLL Side of Heart

· Coat paper with decoupage medium and allow to dry

· Trim your vellum wording, use 2 way glue, allow to set and tack into place

· Place magnolia flower and adhere with hot glue

· Place mini cupie doll on the Queen Cupie’s hand with hot glue

· Tie all 3 ribbons(red, white and pink) in a knot around the pink brad’s tabs and fold over to one side, (face the tab downward so the ribbons cover it) attach with hot glue and trim ribbon to desired length

Finish Edges

· Using the iridescent ribbon and hot glue gun, glue a few inches of ribbon at a time going around the raw edge of the cardboard heart overlapping at the ends

·O OPTIONAL: If you want to hang this you can glue a ribbon to the top center of the heart creating a loop to hang

Farley's Mermaid Circus! ATC!

This 3D ATC was inspired by my book: "Altered Art Circus", where I have a chapter dedicated to ATC's and Components.

To bring new familiarity to the ATC aka Artist Trading Card, I added more 3-d elements to the basic form of 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches which originally started as flat images as a way to showcase one's illustration, more on that in the book.

This piece which I call: "Farley's Mermaid Circus", is created using the Mer-Cupie Embellishment from the Lisa Kettell Designs Line, mixed w/K&Company ticket sticker strips, Cosmo Cricket Paper, Robin's Nest Pink Pebbles, Making Memories Accessories, vintage style pink Tinsel from michaels, Hemptique bakery twine, chip board, zip dry and hot glue!

Materials

-Pebbles, Robin's Nest
-Pink Tinsel, Michaels Craft Stores
-Pink/White Bakery Twine, Hemptique
-Chipboard, Paper Source
-Acrylic paint, smooches, Clearsnap
-Vintage ephemera, floral wire, rhinestones
-Glues: Zip Dry, Beacon Adhesives, Modge Podge, Plaid and Hot Glue
-Other: Floral Wire, Glitter
-Tools: Hot Glue Gun, Scissors, Paint Brush

Directions

1. Measure chipboard to 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, coat with zip dry glue, lay the Monday scrapbook paper over the coated chipboard, press to adhere, let sit for a minute to dry. Then trim the paper to fit the chipboard.

2. Paint a shirt onto the Mer-Cupie with paint color of choice, set aside, let dry.

3. Make a basic pinwheel shape out of the tiny bubbles paper, secure ends with hot glue, attach a looking glass sticker to the center of the pin wheel, set aside.

4. Attach your mer-cupie to the center of the atc using hot glue, begin embellishing her. Make a paper cone from vintage paper, simply measure a 3 inch by 3 inch square onto ephemera or paper of choice, cut down the middle to form a triangle, glue sides together and attach to your mer-cupie with hot glue, add pebbles and tinsel to her hat.
5. Cut a balloon shape from paper, attach to a piece of floral wire using hot glue, apply modge podge to balloon shape, sprinkle red glitter on top, shake off excess and insert next to your mer-cupie, tie on a piece of hemptique bakery twine.

6. Add some more ephemera, mini wood clip, tickets and the handmade pin wheel, voila, Farley is now on her way to enjoy the Mermaid Circus!



Tips and Tricks:
-Use piano paper, paper from a discarded book, old advertisements, or catalog pages for your paper cone hat.
-Buy pre-made pinwheels instead of making your own.
-Use glitter paper instead of using actual glitter
-Tint mica flakes with distressed inks and add to your project for more flare.
-Stamp the alphabet onto plain cardstock, if you can't find the one I used by Cosmo Cricket.
-Use pipe cleaners in place of the tinsel.
