Wed and Thursday July 16-17, 2008
Two Days of Antiquing.

This past wed. and thurs. I went antiquing for an inspirational boost and for of course some vintage goodies. Everytime I create a new edition of the faerie zine or a premier zine such as piddlestixs, it takes alot out of you. During the creation of a new publication I exhaust my creative energy and need some refuel, more than coffee, LoL.

With the creation of Piddlestixs, I have become even more obsessed with everything vintage and old, not that I wan't before, but even more so now. I had a craving for new cabinet card images, dolls, and more. So on Wed. I headed down the road to Victorian Hackettstown's Main Street and started my adventure at Kathy's Kove, which is an amazing antique store with so much to see and buy, from Victorian pieces, fabrics, and furniture to tons of stunning tea ware and piece. I must mention,Kathy's also doubles as a Tea Room with scrumptious treats and tea for all to enjoy after a few hours of searching for treasures. Its a haven of pure vintage delight!

This excursion lead to numerous finds such as:

a basket of dolls(including the basket), a doll tea pick/sugar holder, an old Yankees article with Babe Ruth Picture in frame (put this one away for one of Glenn's Birthday Gifts) and some sheet music booklets with wonderful covers.

I have even created a wish list of a few items I want there, including a vintage prom dress or social ball gown, a rhinestone bracelet and a tea set. During checkout I had the opportunity to meet an amazing jewelry designer named Becki, her jewelry creations are absolutely gorgeous, one beautiful piece after another and she's local from NJ, opening a store in Belvidere. So exciting and glad to become friends, to see her works visit: http://www.flickr.com/people/nanuksigloo/

In Sept. the amazing Kathy will be selling some of my pieces, she's amazing!

On Thursday My Mom and I stopped in to visit our dear and loving friends (extended family) at Sally Lunn's Tea Room and Shoppe in Chester, NJ, http://www.sallylunns.com/while my mom stayed to converse with the girls I headed down to Pegasus Antiques Center to search for some treasures and I'm so glad I did. Let me just say, this store is like walking back into time, into a secret shoppe in Olde England or a Magic Movie. Just so much to see, buy and want. This store is huge with a basement to, I was lost in the cabinet card isle for over an hour and the magazines they have from the turn of the century into the 60's is unbelievable, dolls, teawares, safari hats, furniture, chandelier pieces, they have it all. I have a wish list there too, an antique Teapot and Cups set, an Alice in Wonderland Magazine from 1920's and the whole cabinet card collection, LOL.

The Dollie Follies of 1920!
For the past year I have been watching the popularity of dolls: China Head, Charlotte, Carnival, Kewpie and Blythe really soar. In my move this past fall, I boxed up so many of my studio items, including many of my china heads, kewpies and Blythe dolls, which I'm still unpacking. In those boxes you will also find The Glamour Dolls, Charlies Angels, Darcy Dolls, Spectra, Barbie, Jem, Shirley Temple, Princess Diana, Rainbow Bright, Rose Petal Place, Sea Wees, Holly Hobbie, Revelon Dolls, and more, all resting until I find them.
In my search to add to my collection of dolls I came across an auction on Ebay that was incredible, four carnival dolls from the 1920s era, complete with flapper curled haircuts, feathers and frou frou, I knew I had to have them. So I waited and waited, them the email came, you have won this auction, my day was made, they would become mine.
Then within a week, the package came and I carefully uncovered each doll, like opening up a treasure chest of surprises. From this purchase I have become overly inspired and have decided to use them as my muses for The Dollie Follies of 1920 and as the basis of my next book.

The Dollie Follies is a show similar to the Ziegfeld Follies, filled with fairytale story lines and enchantment, the lead follie star is: Sadie Marmalaide whose been in The Dollie Follies since she was 10 years old, ususally playing the role of a cupid or little pixie. Today Sadie chooses her roles and usually plays the Queen of the Fairies or Alice in Wonderland. Her lead credits include:
1. Titiana, A Midsummer Nights Dream 1920
2. Glinda, Wizard of Oz 1920
3. Alice, Alice in Wonderland 1921
4. Alice, Alice and the Flamingo Parade 1921
5. Venus, The Sea Goddess 1921
6. Alice, The Made Tea Party 1922
7. Morgana, The Wizard's Spell 1922

Other famous Dollie Follies include:
Maude Moorehead (Lady Maverly in Damsel's Distress), Charlotte Witherspoon (Gertie in Pearl's Secret Garden) and June Soursnaps (Madame Pomfrey in Paris Nights)
