Five Days of Christmas, Post 6!



On the 5th day of Christmas....

The Finished Reindeer Papier Puppen!For this Christmas Post I have decided to do a Christmas Project Tutorial on the Reindeer Papier Puppens created at my house for the Christmas Art Party!
The Papier Puppen Kit
Materials:
-One chenille stem cut to 6 inches
-Tinsel chenille stems for embellishing
-One 12 by 12 inch piece of crepe paper folded in half (white, pink or red)
-One 4 inch by 4 inch piece of crepe paper (white, pink or red)
-Two 2 inch by 2 inch pieces of crepe paper (beige)
-Six 12 inch by 2 inch strips of crepe paper, pleated (for dress ruffle)
-Vintage greeting card image of a reindeer, layered onto cardstock
-Tools: Tacky glue, hot glue/hot glue gun, scissors, needle, thread.
-Other: Trims, ribbons, millinery, floral picks, sequins, rhinestones, glitter

Step One, Two and Three:

1. Meaure and cut 6 inches from a chenille stem.
2. Attach tacky glue to each end of a piece of 6 inch cut chenille stem. Place each end onto a piece of 2 inch by 2 inch beig crepe paper, fold, and roll, add a little extra tacky glue to secure.
3. Now add tacky glue to the center of the chenille stem, place onto the 4 inch by 4 inch piece of crepe paper, and roll, secure end with a little extra tacky glue.
Step Four and Five:

4. Fold the 12 inch by 12 inch crepe paper in half, measure 2 inches in from the un-finished ends, and sew a quick running stitch all the way across, pull together gently, hot glue to secure thread, cut extra.
5. The un-finished folds will be on top are the bodice part, one side will have a slit, that is your dress side, cut another small slit into the other side of the dress, only at the top. This is so you can fold down the dress bodice and place the cover chenille stem into it, for the arms. Refer to the top and bottom photo example.
Step Six:

6. Layer vintage reindeer image onto card stock w/a thin coating of tacky glue, let dry, cut out, add a small strip of same color card stock, to back of image, glue in place, let dry. Then attach to top insert of dress bodice (refer to example above)

Step Seven:

7. Pleat the cut strips of crepe paper, fold in half, and glue to bottom of dress using hot glue or tacky glue. Then add to the wrists for extra frou frou ruffles.
Step Eight!

8. Add final embellishments such as more chenille/tinsel, berries, millinery, berries, glitter, etc.

Galerie Des Modes Papier Puppens!

Over the past few years vintage fashion plates, especially Galerie Des Modes fashion plates have been gaining extreme popularity among artist and people with a love for Marie Antoinette, her era, style and life, I am one of those who has gained a passion for these.

A few years ago I was moving stuff around and came across a book I bought at a flea market 15 years ago, it was hard bound and in a cool book case, I had purchased a computer sized box filled with old fairytales, books and paper dolls, along with this book and case for $10. There were about 30 books in there. I was elated. Well I came across the box, after storing it in the attic, when I rummaged through this treasure box I came upon my fave find of all, a Galerie Des Modes book, complete with case from the 1900's and it was in great condition. Its these images, along with others I have acquired, found and been given, even scanning friends prints, which have lead me to a huge collection and can be found on my Marie Fashion Plates CD and some on the Marie Royal Collage CD. Both these CD's were reformatted around Christmas time with loads of great Marie, Marie Style, Rococco, Royalty, Illustrations, Portraits, Images and more on the cds.


Last week I was working on my new Papier Puppens and by accident started creating my version of the Galerie Des Modes fashion plates in the form of crepe paper dolls. These dolls aren'r entirely done, I'm adding some more crepe paper and ribbon layers, glitter and pearls, for now here they are in their first stages.

The Queen of Fairyland

Not only is The Carnival Soiree approaching in 10 days, But in April, another fabulous event is coming: Easter, a day of celebration, Religious Love, Praise and The Arrival of the Easter Bunny, who never comes to your house without an Easter Basket or Chocolate Bunny.

Last week I was at Walmart picking up some items, when I came upon the Easter section, it was like a journey into time. This year everything is 50's style, Russell Stover put out an Easter Pastel Line, the chocolate bunnies, and matching goodies can be in creamy pastel colors of Baby Blue, Pink, Hot Pink, Orange, Lilac, Pale Green, and Yellow. Their are peeps in the same colors, edible grass from Germany, candied eggs, cutesy stuffed animals, and sweet baskets, its just Easter Wonderland, and best part, its reasonable and at Walmart.

When I was young their used to be a few stores open by me, Newbury's and Woolworth's which my mom used to frequent and buy my holiday goodies at, when I saw this aisle I remember those times. Not sure if the Walmart by you will have these goodies, but the ones by me do.

As a tribute to our vintage holiday past, I created this piece in what I call The Cupcake Chic Color Scheme and Style, a vintage vignette made in a large Pink Egg with removable cover, normally used to hold candies or surprises in, I call this piece: The Queen of Fairyland, read her story:

Meet Candie Meadows, The Queen of Fairyland! Here is Queen Candie, welcoming Spring and Easter in her blooming egg garden, just outside her palace in Cottonwood.

Today she will hold the annual Easter Bunny Ceremony where she bestows Mr. Bunny with extra magic, which last all season, this will enable him to surprise children everywhere (Adults too), with Easter Candies and Baskets.


Plus today will mark the official day of candy making, Cottonwood Confectionaires and Percy Pookerman's Candy factories will be extra busy, making sure there is enough confections to go around.
