The Studio at Piddlestixs!

Many of you know I own a shoppe called Piddlestixs, located in Historic Lafayette, NJ. I have officially owned it for 1 year, and have worked hard to cultivate it into the magical world I want it to be, and share with you. Each day is a work in progress, finding props, furniture to create the displays and the ambiance to make it unique. The look for me this year is Coney Island Carnival meets Harry Potter Enchantment.

My store is located over the Millside Cafe in a former playhouse/theater, the stage portion of the store is where my studio is located, that's right my studio is located in the former stage performance section of the store, this is where I have been creating the past year, my labor of magic and love.

Piddlestixs is where my creativity happens, where I heal from the outside world and where I find the my inner magic. This week I begin working on the cupcake/sweet shoppe portion of the store, complete w/seer sucker carnival umbrella's and fun. Enjoy candy apples, chocolate apple sticks, cotton candy, gourmet cupcakes and more.

I'm also working on Piddlestixs vol.4 available in 2 weeks, which is both a print and digital independent artistic magazine I produce and is the basis of where the name of the store came from. Over the next few weeks you are going to see new merchandise, and handmade products from a variety of artists, including work from the amazing, Joan a Sugar loaf artist w/handmade children's apparel and fellow Sugar loaf artist and teacher, AmarettoGirl. Her faux sweet shoppe and cupcake pieces are fabulous.We will be teaming up to do some collaborations this summer and fall, stay tuned....

Next week I will be getting some more apothecary style pieces from a friend who believes my store should have them and I believe she is right, lol. So if you are in the area of Lafayette, come on by and say hi. For now enjoy some pictures of my studio located inside the magical Piddlestixs!

Art Events and Workshops in Historic Lafayette, NJ

There are lots of workshops being un-veiled this year at Piddlestixs, one just around the corner April 7-9, 2011 in Historic Lafayette, NJ called: Mid Spring Nights Dream. The teachers are: Teena Flanner, Jennifer Docherty and June Ann.

The is a handmade friday night fair/soiree, guest speakers, sponsored items and more. If you can't afford the full payment, layaway is available until March 15. After that payment must be in full. There are sign day packages and single workshop plans available which include your breakfast, lunch or both depending on the package you choose.

Lafayette is located 25 minutes from Milford, PA, 50 minutes from NYC, 1 to 1.5 minutes from New Jersey Shore Points, 35 minutes from Warwick, NY, 2 .5 hrs from Philadelphia, PA, 3.5 hrs from Gettysburg, PA, 25 minutes from Morristown, NJ, 1hr from Easton/Allentown, PA areas, 45 minutes from Paramus, NJ, 10 minutes from Sparta, NJ, 3.5 hrs from Maryland, 1 hr from Connecticut border, 1.5 from Stamford, CT and other driving points.

The local hotel has free shuttle service to and from the event, and other locales.

My store; Piddlestixs is located over a fabulous cafe called: The Millside Cafe, which is an area favorite, their breakfasts and lunches are absolutely amazing! My store is also situated in the area's antiques district where treasures are waiting to be found, search inside The Mill Antiques Center, 2 long floors and connected buildings of antiques!

Another favorite at the Mill Antiques is Bogwater Jims and Karen's Store, such eclectic pieces, boating pieces, industrial and European finds, plus many others. Inside the mill is Joe and Sharon's treasure trove of antique toys and memorabilia,

Next store to me is Pam's Store and Sweet Peas. Across the street from me is Cona's Antiques, Next to me on the other side is Chocolate Goat who is known for their Vera Bradley and Imported Chocolate. Across the road are my girls and friends starting at the Black Pony with Bob and Noreen, Rose Petal Porch with Joyce, Lafayette Emporium with Karen, Eileen and June whose located upstairs of the Emporium, next to them is Jill and Herb downstairs from Jill, plus another store coming this week. We have such a great group here and they are all excited about this event coming up in April!

Witches Tea Party and Spellbinding Ghost Walk!

On Saturday October 16, 2010, I hosted the Witches Tea Party at my store Piddlestixs in Historic Lafayette, NJ, from 12pm-10pm

Witches Flew on their brooms (cars) from all over NJ to take part in the festivities. What's a witch to do without her hat, broom, lantern and brew? I was so excited to see many friends and meet new ones. Geralyn and Zandra drove in from the Jersey Shore and Theresa came down from Mahwah, while the other ladies came in from Succasunna, Stillwater, Warwick, Newton, Branchville, Parsippany and Allamuchy!

Several Witches and Wizards were on hand to create new hats to wear this Halloween, sharing eerie tales and spellbinding techniques, munching on spooky delights and geared up for some bone shivering frights........

I had been preparing for weeks for this event, getting Witch hats to decorate, ribbons, trims, millinery and other spook-tacular goodies. The studio had to be transformed, the food prepared the lanterns set, the ghost walk organized, the moonlight tea ready and the surprises in store.

Our day started with a light lunch of tea sandwiches, Parmesan and Artichoke Chicken Salad, Croissants, Spinach Spread and Wine Crackers, Hummus, Fruit Salad and Harvest Autumn Punch. Lunch was followed by the creation of our Witches Hats made using a witch hat base, vintage fabrics, tulle, feather boa's, ribbons, millinery, images, jewels, stitching and glue. We used primarily fabri-tac by Beacon Adhesives and hot glue for this gluing. During this time additional friends and curious seekers popped in for a peek, along with Mark Lipinski who came on by for a visit.

After our witches were complete we started our shopping parade to the businesses and covered bridge. We stopped first at Karen and Don's Shops at the Mill

My dear friend Joyce, owner of Rose Petal Porch handed out surprise goodie bags to the attendees. After Joyce's we headed over to Black Pony Antiques, The Chocolate Goat at the Mill Antiques at Joe and Sharon's spot.

Once dinner was over, attendees received their Pink Jack-O-Lanterns filled with goodies from: Beacon Adhesives, DMC, Rat's Pajamas, Aurora-tique, Piddlestixs, Tila's and Suburban Girl Studios.

With tea lights in place (battery of course), it was time for the ghost walk and evening tea. We descended down the stairs and walked over to Miss June's location over the Lafayette Emporium, in a 150 plus year old structure which is allegedly haunted.

During June's talk one of our attendees felt the ghost nearby and needed to sit, now that was scary, Then as we all left, June handed each of us some goodies, just as we left the structure, we were greeted by David Messineo, creator of the Six Centuries Club, David appeared in 17th Century Costume and led us to his home for the ghostly tales session. His home is a turn of the century farm house which was often used for gatherings and church meetings during that time, it was here that David spoke of eerie tales of witches and ghostly folk lore in a candle light setting w/hot tea and sweets.
